In France, working as a family assistant requires accreditation (agrément) issued by the president of the departmental council, followed by mandatory training set out in the Code de l'action sociale et des familles: a preparatory stage before the first placement, then 240 hours of training leading to the State Diploma of Family Assistant (DEAF).
